14oz Selvedge Denim

The ED-1 is constructed from a 14oz Indigo x Ecru 100% cotton selvedge denim woven by Hewitt Heritage Fabrics on a 1950’s Northrop Loom. This denim will give a great vintage looking fade and become super soft once they are worn in!

100% Copper Rivets

We source our rivets from YKK Japan under their Universal Brand, a brand that originates from the early days of denim manufacturing. They are push through rivets that have been stamped after affixing them to assure they are secure, a process few brands take the time to do. Over time these rivets will form a natural patina making them look naturally aged as your jeans age too.

One Piece Selvedge Fly

The Continuous Fly was patented by David Neustadter on the 30th October 1877 as a way of creating a stronger point at the bottom of the fly as it was often a place where they would tear. We have used the selvedge line to highlight this unique method of construction that only the most skilled craftsman can pull off. This is then reinforced with a crotch rivet, removed from 1930’s jeans as cowboys complained they heated up and burnt their gosh darn rodeo tackles!

No Overlocking

Every seam is felled or taping has been sewn over for a clean, premium finish so that our jeans look as beautiful on the inside as they do on the outside! This adds many more hours to the production time of the jeans but we think it is absolutely worth it. Next time you look into a pair of jeans see how many overlocked edges you can find…

Cotton x Linen Canvas Patch

The ED-1 uses a cotton linen fabric woven by Bysshe Partnership also in Lancashire which we picked out due to its unique looking texture and the heritage look to it; many early denim brands used a canvas for their branding. It also means if you don’t want any animal products in your clothing then these will be perfect for you!

100% Cotton Thread

To make a pair of jeans truly authentic to the “good ol’ days” then one thing many companies miss out is getting rid of all the polyester in the jeans. This includes the threads that you sew the jeans with. They give a shiny, unnatural look to the jeans and won’t wear away at the same rate as the denim. So although you will be more likely to have to do a bit of repair work down the line, nothing beats the look of a beat up pair of jeans with the outline of the sewing shown through the fading! The three colours we sourced are also the original 501 thread colours from pre-1950’s pieces because, well, we are denim geeks…

Chain Stitch Hem

All good pairs of jeans also need a good hem stitch to get that oh so coveted roping fading effect. That 100% cotton thread we mentioned before will shrink the hem and exaggerate the roping effect even more. You can see the difference between new and one washed in the picture opposite, only a chain stitched hem with cotton thread can achieve it this well!

Doubled Belt Loops

Seen on many high end jeans on the market, it adds a clean finish and gives extra reinforcement if you like to clip keys to your belt loops.
